The university sent a list of accomodation offers of great variety, both private, residences, agencies... I didn't get anything from this list, I made a lot of phone calls and it was really hard to find something. We all thought that the university should have had more to offer, for instance an arrangement with student residences. However, "our" secretary was extremely helpful and very nice and she helped us with a lot of things during the semester.

La Maison is a bar definitely not to be missed, it's decor is like a genuine 70's home and it's a cool atmosphere. The music is good, the drinks are great. A great club is La Villa and you can dance all night long there! There are also bigger clubs a bit out side the centre, like Quai Ouest and they're not bad at all. Student soirées often take place there and they shouldn't be missed. There are several nice restaurants, I recommend La Reine Margot. The setting is cosy, the food and the presentation is great and the prices aren't too bad. I didn't experience much out life in Nantes as I had a very heavy work load that semester, but I really enjoyed myself when I had the opportunity to go out!

Academic
Course recommendations
I followed a programem especially designed for students from my university so I really couldn't say. However, the university's very internationally oriented and offer good insight to the European Union, for instance.

Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Audencia is one of France's top 5 business schools and is very well known and viewed. The staff is highly qualified and Audencia has a reputation of being very "international", both in philosophy, courses and contacts. Their vision is more European and international than national. Also the school is renewing and modernising itself by constructing new buildings, so I guess it will be even better than today.

Final comments
I think the best way to get to Nantes is by flying to Paris and then take a connectiog flight, or take the TGV (train) from the airport to Nantes. There are also flight to and from London. Before going, you should ave all your papers in order, as the French are widely known for their bureaucracy! If you wish to travel, get the Carte 12-25 with the SNCF, this gives you up to 50% off on train fares and you can go to aris, Brussels, London, Bordeaux....

Personal spending habits
When studying abroad, you travel and go out more to experience new things and meet new people, it's just natural! As Nantes is only 2 hours away from Paris by train, I went to Paris on several occasions and you definitely spend more money there! As to telephone expenses, I had an internet connection at home and it was the source of most of these expenses. Also most of my calls were international. I spent less on food because the prices are better than at home. My accomodation was more expensive than my present one at home, because I lived in a "hotel residence" where several services were included in the rent and the studio was fully equipped, including microwave-oven and TV with 20+ channels.

Personal comments
I had already lived 2 years in France, so I had no language problems. On a general basis, I think you get a long way trying to express yourself and communicate in French with the French, they become much more friendly and appreciate yoour efforts. Truly the way to go if you aim at learning French, books and classes aren't enough.
