Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Because you might get bigger space. Moreover, being on Campus with 2 other roomates in the same room is not always great. Cleanliness is a big problem especially if other roomates are not responsible enough about community life.

The location was great: downtown Charleston: 17th St Philip Street. One block from King Street ( Charleston Main Street) and one block from the classroom. I have a lot of good memories of my life in my college room. It was in a historic house that belongs to the College. Social life was always going on and people mostly respected others. One disappointinf point was the lack of cleanliness from some irresponsible students. I guess it happens everywhere.

Academic
Course recommendations
You have the opportunity to discuss topics, speak up in class and talk with your professors during classes and office hours. Small classes and good topic courses are a great advantage. Take advantage of it!

Personal comments
Asking students to read a lot is not always the best way for them to learn. What is the point to buy expensive big books and to learn what is written in to then forget everything after the exam. Focusing on specific topics and working on good studycases is a better way to learn.

American English is not always the one that you learn in France. I was more used to British English or a mix of both. However, being in the South of the USA makes you learn this specific accent and slang language. it was hard at the begginning but then it was fine. actually I love southern American English now

I wish I had known...
the saying hello and smiling thing. I felt it was stupid to say hello and smile at everybody while I was walking in the streets. But now I feel it is nice and it puts you in a better mood.

don't always stay with people from your home country or you will never improve your host country language skills, you 'll miss a lot about discovering other cultures and different people.

Getting quality food is expensive in the USA compared to France. You an eat for cheap in the USA but mostly junk and unhealthy food. be Careful for the weight! Telephone is cheaper with local call since you pay a flat fixed price each month: something unbelievable in France! Moreover On campus and local calls were free since I was living on campus. Nightlife is cheaper than in France: but of course Charleston is not as big as Paris. Travel is very expensive whether it is by bus, train or plane. and Hotels too are quite expensive. I guess the American Way of Life offers you better salaries and then services are more expensive. You always have to tip.

YOU must always tip in the USA If you want books from home you better get them from home then in the USA. Be carefull when you withdraw cash money from the ATM (cash dispensers) try to check out a big amount and don't do it too often with small amounts or you might get expensive charging fees
