Excellent Facilities, but the Faculty...
J. F
Switzerland, Graduate
Biochemistry, 2014
Overall
ETH will give you access to the state-of-the-art equipment and you will be at the forefront of research in almost every STEM field there is; however, their faculty is not very helpful at guiding/supporting you if you don't come from a European, particularly Swiss/German style, schooling/background.  I can't tell you how many times a lecture started out with, "Well, I would go into detail about this mechanism, but you all already know it, so moving on...." If you are a foreigner in these programs, you will automatically be behind all of your Swiss/German/Austrian counterparts who did their bachelor's at ETH.  And, although most of the postgraduate programs are held in English, if a student or professor perceives they can get away with it, they'll switch to German in an instant for lectures and otherwise (i.e., group conversations, training, etc.).  If you are a woman, good luck, but if you're in the STEM field already, then you already know.

Pros
Top-notch equipment, facilities, technology, information access you could hope for in an institution.
Cons
As a foreigner, you will have to work several-fold harder than your native counterparts just to be mediocre.

I wish I had known...
I had already been in the French-speaking part of Switzerland (Geneva, Lausanne) and thought it would be the same in Zurich. But it is not, the "Roestigraben" between the french-speaking part and the german-speaking part of Switzerland is not an invention of guide books. I did not believe that Swiss people were so proud of themselves and had so many "clichés" about other European countries (not France especially).

Personal recommendation
ETH Zurich is a good choice if you want to meet students from all over the world and if you do not want to go too far away from France (less than 100 kms from French border, easy to go back to France if needed). The academic level of the institution is very high (especially, Computer Science, Maths, Chemistry), equivalent of some of the best american universities in some areas of study.

Travel tips : - better to be Ok with German before you go (quicker integration) -Switzerland is at the center of Europe, a lot of travel opportunities (go to Lucerne, skiing in Winter week-ends, Oktoberfest in Munich and Bavaria, Italian coast is not so far (Venice)).

Studying in my home town
Vera B
Switzerland, Undergraduate
Engineering, Civil, 2021
Overall
Studying at ETH has been a very pleasant, interesting and eye-opening adventure. It has now been three and a half semesters and I really enjoy the great range of extra- and intracurricular activities ETH has to offer. Not only is there an association for all the students, providing us with a lot of fascinating things to do, there is also a more specific association for almost every field of studying which help us get insight into field-related topics such as excursions to an building site. Until now the professors have been a little distanced from us students as we still are more than 100 and are not yet recquired to have direct contact with them for our studying purposes. The teaching assistants however are very helpful and well suited to bypass the distance between the professors and the students. Overall the ETH has, up to this moment, only impressed me in a positive way.

Pros
very welcoming and well-organised
Cons
the university is "spread" across the city and not a unit, however there are good transportation possiblities provided by ETH and the city of Zurich. There is room for improvement in the teaching skills of some of the professors.

Personal comments
The professors are not always easy to contact (a lot of the academic questions have to be asked to the teaching assistants which is sometimes quite frustrating) The courses are in English of perfectly understandable German (Hochdeutsch), but sometimes the local students ask their questions in the Swiss German dialect which is totally impossible to understand for foreign students
