You must be very lucky to get a good accomodation in Amsterdam. Therefore you cannot really complain...you have to take what you get.

Vondel park in the summer-time, Melkweg (nightclub) if you like rock, Paradiso (nightclub) if you like pop, Baltazar (restaurant) for a great set-3 dish-menu in the Jordaan

in fact in netherlands, everybody speaks english. so for one year specially in amsterdam, there's no need to learn dutch. in fact nobody speaks it outside netherlands !

the apartments were generally quite messy. though they were fully equipped, the furniture were not in a good condition.
