Overall
I wish I had known...
I wish I had read more history of China and Nanchang is particular before I went. History explains a lot of mysteries of why the Chinese act as they do.

Final comments
I taught English. I had a student killed by a speeding truck on campus. I devoted the rest of my time to trying to get a crosswalk for at least the small children. I had a severe and dramatic clash with University authorities on this subject. I am currently working on a book about my experience with Chinese authorities and their total lack of understanding of the desirability of assuring safely for their students. Safety is a concept which has not yet reached China.
For all of that, the people of China are wonderful, kind and loving. Their hard work and ambition is to marvelled at. Their morals are admirable. China is a great place!
