Housing
Type of housing: students' residence off campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: in a shared flat with german students
Why?
i think the best way to get to know a country, its language and culture is to spend as much time with its native population as possible. living in a students' residence, you tend to spend most of your time with

Personal comments
the students' residence where i spend my two semesters, STUDENTENDORF EICHENDORFFRING, was inexpensive and had a nice international atmosphere to it. there were some great facilities, such as a student restaurant, laundry, a huge lawn, and an occational party.

In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
i would not recommend the university of giessen for any particular academical reasons, as i wasn't particularly impressed with it myself. i find the town of giessen a nice place, even if it isn't the most beautiful of place, because there's a good atmosphere, many students, and its size makes life there pleasant and not to stressful.

Academic
My academic experiences
Interaction with teachers
Interaction with international students
Interaction with local students
Personal comments
in my experience, the way post-graduate courses are organised in giessen does not put sufficient emphasis on the two-way communication between students and professors. therefore, the courses tend to be quite boring. typically, a student makes a presentation, and he/she and the professor then discuss the topic of his/her presentation, but the other student hardly participate at all.

Other sources of funding:
Personal savings<br>
An ERASMUS grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
i went out at night a great deal more than at home and travelled extensively throughout my stay. other than that, the living expenses were lower than in denmark. this, of course, is totally dependent on your country of origin.
