“A comprehensive study”

Lomonosov Moscow State University is considered to be the best Russian University. Indeed, the education you get there is of a high standard. The curriculum is very diverse, however, it is rather rigid, as you can choose the department, but not your subjects. Anyway, during my studies, I acquired comprehensive and deep knowledge of my subject, which helps me now in my career as an English teacher and translator.
Still, the University has some drawbacks like bureaucracy, the lack of student life, poor accommodation facilities, and old lecture halls with no new equipment at all.

You need to speak basic russian, otherwise it's hard. It's a good university though, language classes are great and students very nice and interesated!

Comentario personal
I actually studied Russian two different times at Moscow State University. First from May to August 1997, then again in 1999. The language and communication aspect of each time was incredibly fascinating! The first time I went, I could not speak Russian nor could I even understand the alphabet. When I arrived, I could barely buy bread at the corner store because I just had no clue what was going on. The most incredible part of this language experience is looking back after three months and seeing for yourself what kind of progress you made. The second time, what was incredible was the initial fear of having forgotten some of the language, but once back into it you realize again how much you learned the first time. I was amazed at the fact that I could discuss philosophy with Russians by the end of my sixth month. This kind of gratification does not come along everyday, and I will appreciate that always.

“Institute of Asian and African Studies - Moscow State University/ Atatürk Institute for Modern Turkish History - Boğaziçi University”

It's my 6th year in Moscow State University, so there are 9 months left until my graduation and becoming a MA in Oriental Studies. The Institute I've been studying in, is famous for the quality education and variety of Asian and African languages taught there. Some of them are rare and courses on them are represented only in IAAS. Students are really obsessed with the countries and cultures they are studying, we can speak Asian and African languages professionally and beside that, we study history, philology, economics or political science (optional). Also, the great thing about our university are internships abroad and exhange students, whom we welcome every year.

I was already fluent in Russian and knew Russian culture. My goal was to experience Russian student life, and that goal was accomplished.

People that I have talked to all had positive feedback, but Russia can make your life difficult if you don't know some of the unwritten rules of bureaucracy there.

Shared my apartement with an English student who did not know any Russian - NOT a good idea. You should have reached a certain level of Russian before beginning your studies at MGU.
