There are no problems communicating in English. Singapore English, Singlish, is easy to understand once you get used to it. It is actually kinda cute.

it was a really good experience. On an exchange program you can apreciate all the different sorts of English. Not only the Singlish...là!!

Local people usually speak madarin to each other, but they are al very fluent in English. There were absolutely no problem to communicate.
