All for the real nightclubs you had to go to El Paso or Mexico, about 45 minutes away, I enjoyed going to the restaurants, like Bennigans, with my friends and real New Mexican bars like Chopes.

Personal comments
The on campus housing was of good quality, however, price wise it was better to look around yourself and find something off campus.

Personal spending habits
Telephone costs went down because i shared the phone with my roommates. Local calls are for free and i had my family call me, so i had no expenses for long distance calls. The apartment i lived in was the cheapest in Las Cruces, and the amount i pay at the moment in Rotterdam does not even come close to what i paid in the US. My social life was a little more costly. You want to experience the most when you are abroad, so i took full advantage of my opportunities.

Personal comments
I was lucky to get an atletic scholarship, but what I have heard was that many scholarship are not used because people just do not apply. I would recommend putting a little effort in filling out the paperwork, because it could result in a partial scholarship.

Personal comments
Acadamic life for international and exchange students seemed to be a little easier than for Americans who sometimes had a fulltime job in addition to afford the tuition. So academic life could at times be not so challenging, however, the level was decent and teachers were very helpful and attentive.

I wish I had known...
The town is smaller than i expected, and in the weekends if you have no other obligations it can be boring. However there is always something to do, you just have to look for the events!

Final comments
There is a great deal to do in the area, but there is even more in a couple hours driving distance. Rent a car for a long weekend or a week, and drive down to Santa Fe, Phoenix, or the Grand Canyon. From there on Las Vegas is only a few hours away.

Needing to deal with the english language daily, both in social and academic life, I picked up the language relatively fast. At the moment I am still attending courses in the Englisg language in my home country, which helps me stay on top of it every day.
