In summary personally i love this experience. China is a beatiful country and Beijing is an amazing city, anyway you can love it or you can hate it..there is no middle point. For china you have to be prepare for everything, be very tolerant because you will face a lot of situations that im sure you will be in shock. The culture is different so the way chinese people see norms of conduct. so be open mind. Other tip, Chineses are very curios about foreigns so dont feel unconfortable if people look at you all the time or even ask personal questions to you at the first time!! And if you dont speak any chinese be aware if you come alone that english is not enough, at the moment only a few chinese people speaks english.

Academic
Course recommendations
My master program is in English, i had the opportunity to study chinese one year before, but it will be nice if they can add chinese courses, at least for help the students in this kind of program to learn basic chinese.Maybe would be ok if it is an optional choise..but anyway i would love to take it besides my year of study.

When I arrived i didnt speak any Chinese, but I thougth my english was enough, big mistake, in china almost no one speaks english. Well with the international students no problems because we communicate in english and spanish but of course doing my daily life with chinese people at the beggining was difficult, a lot of times i feld like a little baby, because everything was very hard, even go to the supermarket, because evertything is in chinese. The only way to communicate was with signals or mimics. But i survived and that help me to push my self to learn chinese faster. It was a need.

Personal spending habits
The food on campus is very cheap, and at work is for free. The telephone is the same, because i have to buy the cards so i know how much im expending. The housing is free due to my scholarship. The nightlife in Beijing could be sometimes expensive, well actually is more expensive than in my country. Traveling i spent more money because in everyplace I do a lot of tourism.

I live in Shao Yuan is the guest house for internatinal students. The buildings are old, but the rooms are clean, paint and they have the basic facilities. My principal problem was the space, because is a small room and we have to share it with other student, and another problem the bathroom, we dont have our own, we have to share with all the girls that live in my floor. But for the student life is pretty good, because i have everything that i need very close. sometimes is not good for study because at least in my case i need to be alone when im doing a research paper or studying my chinese...but i got use to have someone in the room with me.

In Beijing I have a lot of favorite night spots, but i would say i like Hou Hai, is a place aroun a lake full of bares and restaurants, also the Jiu Ba Jie, is the main street for bares and also restaurantes from all differents parts of the world. My best cafe is Sculpting in time. And places in this city not to be missed are Tiananmen Square, Great Wall, Forbidden City, Summer Palace, Temple of Heaven, etc.and the markets!!
