My favorite bar was O'Connols. It's an Irish pub where lots of students used to meet. The university also organizes parties which are real fun too. The center has plenty of bars too which are all very nice. You have to see the famous market of Rennes. It's each saturday in the center as well. They sell fish, fruits, meat, cheese...everything...it's amazing!!!
While you're staying in Rennes, try to see the coast of Britany too, for instance Saint Malo.
