I was really surprised to find out that almost everyone in the Netherlands is near-fluent in English. The locals were really noticably friendly and kind.

I found dutch to be very hard at first, but then after a few months i was able to follow conversations even thought i wasn't able to speak much of it.

Since my Master program was taught entirely in English and English is very common in The Netherlands, I did not have any communication problems.

Almost all the Dutch speak a perfect English. You don't need to learn Dutch unless you're planning to settle in the Netherlands!

I wasn't interested in learning dutch but this wasn't a barrier to communicate with anybody, because everybody spoke english.

At the beginning was a little bit tough to get used to academic speech. After a while i got used pretty well, just practice.
