Personal comments
Housing is very expensive, but you can find easily housing by the university or association like AIESC, who can provide with different contacts close to the University.
What is cool is to share a house with swimming pool, palm trees and others very nice people from all over the world for $400-500.
You can meet a lot of people with your new roomates who are there for a long time or merely like you ....

Clubbing is not a problem, we particulary enjoy Pacific Beach, with a lot of nice bars, but you can go for a night in Mexico (Tijuana is only 15 miles from SD, or Rosarito....)...You can go for a week end in Los angeles...
Everythings cool when your go out there, but think to always bring your ID and let under 21 people at bed....

You always think your english speaking is good, but you first experience something like this, you feel very uncomfortable during few weeks.... most of International Students have been to US or England or whatever so they speak well, but everybody don't care of your mistakes or accent, becuz' they ve already experienced that or merely because even americans don't speak a good english....Anyway, speak a lot with different people...even with french, because sometimes you live very difficult period!!!!!

Personal spending habits
Accomodation is expensive, yes but why??? French exchange rate versus dollar was very high....but it's not excessive....then when you are abroad, far from your home, you are obliged to visit more, to go out more to meet people, to spend money for spend money because sometimes you're sad but most of the time you're out with friends, travelling, visiting, clubbing, drinking...and thats expensive...but you not not regret!!!!!
