There are a lot of nice pubs near to the Piazza Navona and the Campo dei Fiori, as well as in Trastevere.There are so many nice things to do and to see in the "città eterna" that I can only advice to go and see it by yourselves.

Personal comments
Its easy to talk and communicate with itliens if you have the knowledge of the language. They are very openly and the language isn´t so difficult. On university it was quit more difficult but you can managed it past a while.
