Housing at American universities (even if they are state universities) is very expensive - dining services are also extremely costly in comparison to the inexpensive mensa (Italian university dining hall) meals offered through the study abroad program.

The public places (piazze) in Rome are not to be missed! In general public life in Rome is great. Go to the Colosseum on the afternoon of December 24th! You will enjoy it. Estate Romana is also very cool. Don't celebrate New Year's in Rome (at least not at the public party of the Municipality!!!

When I arrived it was a little bit difficult to speak. I just had learn some basic phrases. At the end of my erasmus, I could speak italian.

In the beginning it was not easy at all.But you learn very quickly as people in Italy often don't speak another language than their own.It's the perfect way to learn a language.People are so nice there that you d'ont fear to make mistakes and that you automatically speak Italian to ask something.

It was very good, I also took language courses at the university, that were especially planned for erasmus students, which helped me a lot.
