Personal comments
I always wanted to learn Italian. Its quite an easy language to learn compared to others. Italy is the perfect place to learn the local language -because you have to! The Italians really only speak Italian, and not English... The only opportunity to have a good social life is to learn the language asap

Personal spending habits
The prices in Italy is far lower than in Denmark. Of course I was often given a higher prize because of being a foreigner which really pissed me off. Overall I spent more money in Italy, because there's so many things to see and do...

Overall
I wish I had known...
I guess I had a bit of a culture shock, going from the northern europe to Italy... Also more language skills would have eased my socializing.

Academic
Course recommendations
Talk with other students... Take a lot of courses in the beginning, and skip them you dont like... It seemt real easy just to pick a new course during the first month or so... There's so little control and few teachers controls who shows up when. At some courses in auditoriums there's like 100 students, so in theory you can just sign up for the exam in the end of the course and take the exam without studying. At others the professor really controls who goes, and this matters when he give the grade at the end of semester... Talk with the professors in the beginning of the course so that he knows that you are interested in it. The small courses are often much better than those for the crowds. Write notes...
Dont buy the books, borrow them at the department libary and copi them... You dont want to use them after your study abroad anyway...

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I think its the only possibility. The university doesn't help you to find a place to stay.

I lived at Via Casalina, which was pretty far out of the city. Public transportation in Rome, is really crappy. So I strongly recommend a house in the city center i.e. San Giovanni, near Termini or near the main attractions Coloseum, Piazza Navona etc...

The ESN organization at La Sapienza is really good to organize events... Every week there was new party in a new discoteque... Else Rome is amazing, but frankly the discoteques aren't all that great... Drinks can be very expensive, and people can be quit weird. It all comes down to the fact that Italian guys tries with the girls so bad, all the time with no self awareness what so ever... This freaks most girls out, and irritated me as well...
