Academic
Course recommendations
The only course I took and can't recommend is Business Finance as the teacher is only reading from the book, doesn't explain anything and hardly any student is able to follow. Didn't learn anything in this course. The range of courses is amazing! Most popular courses are Photography, Outdoor education (2 trips included) and Perspectives on Australia. Workload varies tremendously. Some units just have some little tests, others require four assignments and an exam.

There should be more equality. I had to write 5 assignments, do 1 presentation and sit 3 exams. Others didn't have any exams and/or presentations at all.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
That's just the best opportunity to get to know other people.

Three different colleges, home stay is also possible, but mostly too expensive. Life in college is sometimes chaotic and loud, but you have always someone (your room mates or the accomodation assistants, who are Australian students at this uni)who can help you.

“Do not enrol if you value your mental health”
Paula
Sweden, Graduate
, 2025
Overall
Please do not enrol if you value your mental health. The Professional Experience Team, which is supposed to find you a placement, is highly incompetent! They never respond to emails, not even once. They only send generic automatic replies. You’re expected to start on a certain date, so you take leave, and then it gets postponed. Then they tell you a new start date, only to postpone it again, week after week. In the end, you receive a generic email saying you can defer..
This is completely unprofessional, and I honestly don't know what they’re doing there..
If the Professional Experience Team cannot fulfil their responsibilities, then they need to either:
A) Hire more staff
B) Accept fewer students
Unbelievable! This entire experience has caused me immense stress and severely affected my mental health, all because of their incompetence. I would not recommend this university to anyone. If you value your mental well-being, please find a different university. This has been an absolute nightmare!

Well, you just have to travel a lot in such a country! :-) Calling home is pretty inexpensive. Just buy a calling card for a public telephone - ca. 5 cents (!) per minute. So you really can afford to talk for hours!!

Check wether your home bank has a partner bank in Australia (for Germany: Deutsche Bank's partner Bank is Westpac). Then you don't have to pay any fees when getting money at an ATM.

If you love nature and animals that's the perfect uni for you. This uni has a koala hospital on its premises and you can help them (caring for sick and injured koalas).

Final comments
If you have any (!) problems just go to the International Office (on campus) and ask for help. They do almost everything for you and are really nice and dedicated. It's one of the most amazing instituitions I've ever seen. Always friendly, always relaxed.

“Unbiased University”
Venus911
Australia, Graduate
, 2022
Overall
In the past twelve years, I studied at four different universities including Macquarie University, Curtin University, University of South Australia and Southern Cross University and personally found that the professors or teachers at University of South Australia and Southern Cross University are unbiased and respecting other cultures and treating all students are equal. This is extremely important to a students likes me who’s first language isn’t English.
