Overall
I wish I had known...
All in all my experience went quite smoothly. I did enough research to settle down and the surprises were minor and a learning experience. I would suggest to do some homework before departure, and then things should work out fine.

In my opinion:
Everybody loved it, you will too!
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Study hard, play hard! (And make sure you schedule your time accordingly. Some courses require a lot of work and need to study ahead of time to do well. This doesn't come easily since there are no assignments, midterms, projects etc during the term)

Final comments
Germany is located at the center to western europe and there are many many good deals/flights to many different countries. Look around and take advantage of that. The transportation in Europe is also very good to get from one country to another. Be safe, and have fun!

Course recommendations
The thing I loved about TUBS is the choise of courses they have. I would suggest to get a clear picture of all your choices before choosing, and to take advantage of it all!

Study throughout the term - it makes things easier at the end. It's hard to do because most courses only have a 'end of term' final, but it would definitely cut down on the amount of work at the end. It could make a big difference at times.

Languages
Language of instruction: German
Was learning German a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my German
How much did you improve your German?
My level before: Basic phrases
My level after: Everyday knowledge (shopping, directions, etc.)
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
I definitely noticed a big improvement in understanding German before and after my experience. This is most apparently in how much I absorbed in lectures during the first compared to second semester. Another thing is, the more you speak, the more you pick up. If I had to do it again, I'd definitely try to speak more.

Accessibility of student needs
Second-hand household items
Personal comments
Since there are so many Erasmus or exchange students in this city, it should be easy to get second hand items for a bundle. Usually the students leaving will sell their beddings, cutlery, lamps etc for a good price. This should be easy to find in most student residences.

Housing
Type of housing: student residence
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Living in student residence allows you to meet lots of people from a variety of places. It's a good way to get to know some locals, as well as other exchange students at the same time.

Personal comments
Due to the variety in the structure of the rooms in Michaelishof (name of residence), your experience will depend on which part of the residence you end up. However all in all, I would say that was the best residence of TUBS; location, atmosphere, and price were all good. As for the cleanliness and space, as mentioned before, that really depends on where you are assigned.

Clubbing is a huge part of nightlife at Brauschweig. There are places to go almost everynight of the week, and clubs play a variety of music - you're bound to find a scene that suits you. The popular ones are Jolly Joker, Merz, Brain. Besides that, there are many pubs all around, some of which are student-runned.
