It would be a bit nicer to have a bit more contact with lecturers in smaller groups. All classes are lectures and in groups anywhere from 20 to 200 students.

Overall
I wish I had known...
Getting into Bangor is difficult without a car as buses stop running at 6 and arent very frequent, but they are free. Make loads of friends and theyll be more than happy to show you around.

Final comments
Take advantage of the international student trips but dont forget the trips advertised to american students too. As a student you can apply too, and it gives you a chance to meet people from all over the States and visit places you wouldnt get to see otherwise.

Languages
Language of instruction: English
Was learning English a key decision factor?
No, it wasn't.
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Although taught in English and living in an English speaking country I was suprised at some of the differences in the language use, and the difficulty people had understanding me. Everyone was really friendly and we all enjoyed learning about the differences. There were never any real problems that couldnt be overcome.

Personal comments
Not many night spots, mostly restaurants that open late like Margaritas in Orono or some of the bigger restaurants in Bangor, the nearest city. The local nightclub Ushuias was cramped and the music was a bit different but you always have a good time. Oronokas is another rest5aurant that hosts the oronoka party for the international student service. With a complete mix of cultures its fantastic and better if you participate by providing music from your home country.
