I wish I had known...
In my opinion:
I loved it but I'm not sure everybody would.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
They should pay more attention to international students. The information available about courses etc. should be in Spanish and not in Catalan.

You have to be patient in the Spanish culture. Not everything is that well organised and you often have to go through a lot in order to get something organised. It´s part of the culture so you take it or leave it.If you want to do a lot, go out, etc. you will need at least around 200Euros a week (including rent) Try not to live in the city centre (La Ramble, Borne) because you always have to keep an eye on your belongings, you´ll feel a lot safer in for example Gracia.

That here in Barcelona they speak Catalan and up to the point of making this language obligatory for all students to learn.

Don´t be surprised if they are a bit aloof, that´s one of the traits of Spanish people. They don´t generally get friendly at the first time you meet them. try to impress them by saying things in Spanish, they will love for it.

It is different from German universities, so you should contact native students.

Although it might not be that comfortable you should organize accomodation yourself accomodation organized by the university often is situated outside Barcelona where I personally would feel quite lonely. But this certainly depends on the people you live with. I lived in Cerdanyola, a small town near the University, and I wasn't lucky at all.
If I were to go back I would certainly choose to live in Barcelona although this means about 1,5 hours of travelling a day to go to and to return from classes at University.

“Una buena universidad”
Marta G
Spain,
Law, 2023
Overall

“Good university, master's course are ok but lack practical vision”
Patricia R
Spain, Graduate
Sociology, 2019
Overall
I studied a master in " Social Policy, Employment and Welfare" at UAB and in general was positive with some issues. The university is very big and technological, has an open approach to teachers and a lot of opportunities to learn. The master´s content adresses a lot of important social issues and is very broad, which helps a full understanding of social context. In overall I recomend with some advices, for example having a more practical emphasis.

I wish I had known...
if i had known before hand that we weren't to have any heating in our apartement, i would have brought with me a few extra blankets and woolsocks. even though the image of spain is sunny and hot, in november and december you might not want to go to the beach anymore. at least to swim in the sea, that is.
