Una de cal y otra de arena
Alba P
Spain, Undergraduate
Marketing and Sales Management, 2022
Overall

Great opportunities, bad organisation
María G

Biotechnology, 2021
Overall
Biotecnology degree in the University of Granada is very new, so it is a bit of a mess, as they are still organizing the subjects and learning from each year's experience to make them better. It's a very hard degree, specially the firs two years, teacher are very demanding and the subjects are tough. Some teachers are bad and others are great, as everywhere.

It is true that I have learned a lot, but I think lab practices could be better in some subjects, and also teachers could help us more in general. I also thing that they should offer compulsory internships in enterprises for everyone.

Course recommendations
Take the courses that you feel will be of interest and use to you. There is no point taking up courses that will not be worth your time for one reason or another. I based my overall evaluation on the following criterias: - likelihood of accreditation by home university - of particular academic interest - of particular personal interst - lecturer (teaching method and clarity of language) - fellow students

Personal comments
I had a very good academic experience because I took up courses in which I felt a good reason to invest time and energy, however I felt that the system itself had several flaws. Firstly, the exams where very short and intense. They did not give you the chance to think things through and express your ideas throroughly. Secondly, good grades could be obtained simply by copying exactly what the lecturer had said in class. Another difficulty was the lack of support from the International Office at the university which was virtually absent. I did feel that I had a rewarding year at the univerisity, but there are certain improvements that could have resulted in an even better experience.

Concerning the apartment, try to get an apartment with central heating. It might not seem important in the beginning when it's warm but most people were freezing much more than in their home country. Be careful about apartments being close to the business faculty (Cartuja), they might be quite far away from downtown, which is not practical when going out. Sign up for the international student organization (ASEE), they organize all kinds of activities such as salsa courses, language exchanges (intercambios) and trips.
