Mexican Spanish is very different to Castillan Spanish. It took me a month to get used to it and my accent changed as well. Mexican Spanish is slower than Castillan Spanish.

Academic
Course recommendations
Mexican education is very different to European standards. Exams are relatively easy. Overall, the intellectual debates are not as challenging and interesting as in the UK for example.

Final comments
Travel as much as possible.
Try and negotiate for everything that you buy. It sometimes works!
Be prepared to spend a little more (than the local population) on medical care. It tends to take quite a while.

Hardly any Mexicans live in university accomodation. They tend to live at home or share a flat. I chose to do the same as I wanted to improve my Spanish and converse with Mexicans as much as possible. I lived in a 4 bedroom house with two Mexicans and one girl from Benin. It was a fantastic experience.

The night life in Guadalajara is amazing. Mexican people love to party and welcome foreigners who are interested in their culture. The best night sports are in the city centre (e.g Bar Americas, La Mutualista, El Cafe Rojo, etc.) The best cafes and restaurants are to be found near the Cathedral in the city centre.
