Oviedo is a great city to study and live but an effort is needed if you wish to get away from an English dominated way of life.
Travel: Take advantage of the opportunity to explore this part of Spain. Travel by bus, it´s cheaper than train and actually faster.

The International Relations Office is friendly, but they are student and not professionals. It is very easy to choose courses in any field you like.

If you want to go to Spain but do not like the herds of tourist, come to Oviedo. There are NO tourists in Oviedo, it is a safe, nice, and extremely clean city.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Personal comments
You have to arrange your accomodation yourself, but the university can offer assistance in finding one. They have some offers at the International Relations Office in the centre. But a lot of them are outdated or have other disadvantages, like location, costs etc.
At the end it was not that difficult to find a decent place to live.

Languages
Language of instruction: Spanish
Was learning Spanish a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Spanish

My level after: At ease in most situations
Language difficulties
Administrative / Institutional
Personal comments
Oviedo is a great place to go if you REALLY want to learn the language. Most of the local people and stores, DON'T know English, so you are forced to speak spanish all the time--which is the BEST way to learn. Other more touristy places in spain that we traveled to, as soon as a local thought that you were American, they would speak English to you, which at times you were thankful for, but it didn't allow you to practice and struggle through situations that would make you better at Spanish.
