Open an accout as soon as you arrive to avoid transfer charges from home. Bring money from home in cash or traveler's cheques as this also avoids charges. Always ask about possible charges, there are much more banking charges there than here.

I wish I had known that plane tickets are were more expensive and that it was difficult for me to travel on the train AND study because it would take too long for me to get anywhere on the weekends.

i found that the majority of exchange students cling together and never really try to learn the foreign language and that makes it really hard at first. later i made a stronger effort to get to know more locals, and that´s when i really begin to learn spanish.
