Academic
Course recommendations
I took all of my course at the actually university. I took two courses under Cursos para extranjeros which is the closest you will get to taking courses with regular spanish students if your spanish level isnt high enough. you take these courses with other americans and its in spanish taught by professors from the univeristy. I also enrolled in 2 regualr university courses with spanish students. If your level of spanish is very advanced they are very worthyour time. be prepared to do no work all semester and then study like hell to take exams. The classes arent hard as most people said. You just need to keep on top of independant reading. I did all the reading int eh last month of school i was ok.

I'm a native spanish speaker, but the spanish accent from andalucia was a little difficult to understand. the regional dialect is very different from say, madrid or Barcelona.

Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Personally i would have gone to a more affluent city just because the poorness of Andalucia shows in the amount of educational resources availalbe for students. Otherwise its just as good as any other university.

Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
I personally would have gone to a bigger city because the nightlife options get tiring quickly, there were too many americans, and there seems to be a lot of resentment on behalf of the citizens towards foreign students. I was harrassed numberous times by men and many guys were randomly assulted.

Mobile phones were more expensive only because i had to use pre-paid. But if you get vodafone, you can get some pretty good prices. if you join the Q Tal group with your friends, it will cost you 6 cents to call and text everyone in the group. i also came with dollars and the dollar was not doing so well this year. So the exchange rate was unfavoralbe for some things.

If you are coming from the states, to avoid ATM charges open a Citibank account before you come and you can take money out for free. Fees can be as high as $25 per transaction!

Housing
Type of housing: With a family
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I already speak spanish and im familiar with the spanish culture. Although i could come and go as i wished visitors were not allowed and i prefer to be able to cook for myself. Im jsut that kind of independant type person. I do recommend staying with a family if you really want to emerse yourself in the culture. Plus, being vegetarian my only choice was to choose a family over the dorms.

For the most part housing was great. CIEE did a good job except for the fact they forgot to tell my host mom i was vegetarian and i had a very monotnous semester of the same types of food--mostly tomatoes, spinach, totilla española and rotten cheese.
