Bairro Lato neighboorhood is definetely the place to be. Docas is ok, but hardly any POrtuguese would go there. Festa de S Antao in June is a must.

Languages
Language of instruction: Portuguese
Was learning Portuguese a key decision factor?
Yes, I wanted to improve my Portuguese
How much did you improve your Portuguese?

My level after: No problems in any areas (including slang)
Language difficulties

Final comments
Travelling and housingis not so cheap, if compared to average portugues income. Still, it's very cheap for most Europeans. On the other hand, it's not really worth working there as pay is ridiculous. Best saving up before going or working in home country in between your stay
