Personal recommendation
I would definitely recomend it. In my field of studies (pharmacy) they are really good. It's not easy at all but you'll learn much more than any other erasmus and in my opinion the experiece includes fun and academically it's very stimulating too.

Make sure you have insurance set up and a good budget before you go because it can get pretty costly in Switzerland. Get involved in the Language Center because you will be around individuals facing the same communication struggles as you and this can be very encouraging.

Housing
Type of housing: A student home by the university
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
Basel is a small, university town where people from all over come to study or complete internships. At the student house you get to meet this people whom you get to share your culture with and whose differences you get to learn from. It's just a wonderful melting pot where people, like you, come and go, kind of like a condensed globe.

From my student home, it took 2 minutes to walk to the university's English seminar, and 5-10 minutes to the French one. My room was spacious and clean, and I share the kitchen and washrooms with the other 17 or so people on my floor. In the basement were an entertainment room, a television room, rooms for musical practice and two laundry rooms with coin-operated machines. There are also study areas and large sitting areas on the ground floor. It's a great place that's accessible to the Rhine, the grocery stores and popular streets for hanging out.

Overall
At Basel University you. have a well-structured place to study several different topics.
Lots of classes are in English for students from abroad.
A great variety of different classes can be chosen.

Pros
Everything is near by, no long distances between the rooms.
Cons
The first classes of the year are always too full and the rooms are too small.

The bar rouge is a very special bar on the top of the highest building of basel. A bit posh but you can't miss it at least once. The Herbstmesse as well as the art fair are just a couple of the many remarkable events in the city. Basel is full of museums you need to visit. In the tourist information point they can provide you with a leaflet of around 30 museums in Basel. I love the Beyeler Foundation and the Tinguely museum. Swimming in the Rhein river is a must.
