I really enjoyed the "Viertal area", which i had some of my favorite restaurants and bars; Kismet 3 kebab house for the best Rollo's is worth a special mention, as the people there are so friendly. And when its warm you can sit out on the street and watch passers by.

The University provides a housing service, but you have little choice you have to tak e what you are given. Which may not suit your recuirements. Though the halls of residence are very good.

As I study a german degree course, I alreaedy had good level of the language. But i changed my relationship to german, not just understanding the phrases literally but taking on the conotations and use of phrases. You might say i began to understand the Pragmatics of german to far greater level.

Course recommendations
Its important to get the right blance beteen stretching yourself and setting achievable targets. That said the wide variety of courses german universities offer, (compared to the relativly rigid course framework of many english universities) means theres always plenty to choose from.

The openended nature of study in Germany, does have the downside, that you are often given little guidance as to what level or kind of work is expected from you. Let alone what subject you should adress in work. This can be annoying if you're not used to it, but its best to think before you ask questions that are to general. Lectures will respond more helpfully if you can give some indication of what you're interested in, they may then guide you more than at first it seemed they were willing to.

Final comments
I recommend trying to visit asa much of the rest of germany as you can, Bremen is a great city, but it is not a typical german city in many ways. And you would miss out on lots of German culture if you failed to visit the other great german citys like Munich nd Berlin.
