You'll have a lot of fun whatever you do, but if you're there to learn the language you can be disappointed if you're not actively searching for french students to talk to, you really have to make an effort if you want to meet french friends.

Low cost airlines make it easy to get to, be prepared for the fact that french airports do not usually have a train connection.
There is a bus service to town centre, taxis are expensive andmay take advantage of the fact you are obviously new to the place

If you have the adequate French language schools and are willing to adapt to a system which has much less money than the American one as well as having a different teaching method you can learn an enormous amount about another culture
