Other sources of funding:

Work opportunities:

Personal spending habits
I spent more on food and drink because my room was tiny and there was no common recreation areas in halls/on campus so going out for coffee or lunch was an essential activity to allow me to get out and see friends. Alcohol is more expensive in bars especially as there is no student union or student nights at bars/clubs.

I had to pay for the internet in halls!! Definitely would recooment signing up for CAF, its really easy and halved my rent. You just need to supply photocopies of your EHIC card, passport and evidence of your residence.

Personal recommendation
I loved the program and the people that I met! It was a very cultural experience and I think the professors tried hard to accommodate for all the different nationalities.

Final comments
Be sure to explore Brittany and Normandy (the beach is also pretty close by). I think it's real important to get to know your surroundings and the area in which you live. Don't forget to bring a raincoat and umbrella as it rains a lot in Rennes! And be ready to taste some seafood - the area is known for its fresh fish!

Personal spending habits
I needed to buy prepaid phone cards to make calls. I went out more often, as exchange students do. I traveled much more, and train tickets can be expensive. But as for the food, I cook, so I can be selective as to price and quality. And the accomodation was part of my program's expenses.

Occasionally, you have to pay the bank to have an account. Also, you are often only paid once a month, and it sometimes takes several months before you receive your first payment.
