Tipo de alojamiento: En el campus

¿Por qué?
On Campus was too expensive and it's easier than I thought to find a house.

I lived in Farranlea Hall, which was really nice but very expensive. You have to pay (a lot) extra for the laundry and you are not allowed to do anything, whithout getting a fine. And it was a little far from the centre. Apart from that it was perfect.

The pound to euro turnover has indeed lead to increased prices. Obviously, the nightlife and travel expenses were higher but I had planned on this, so it wasn't too much of an issue.

Try the English Market for food... Tesco, Dunnes Marks & Spencer and Supervalue are more expensive, and the products aren't nearly as fresh.

Tipo de alojamiento: En el campus

Si volviera, eligiría: Piso o apartamento
¿Por qué?
The suites that we were housed in were a bit sterile, and they lacked character. However, I did get the opportunity to live with Irish students, rather than solely with American students, and that was a big plus.

The facilities were fine, but the suites were farther from the center of town than I would have liked.

The best way to enjoy an international experience like that is to share a house with other international students. Appartments on campus are unaffordable!!

It is quite difficult to find a good accomodation in the area if you arrive in the last weeks before the course starts. I would recommend to arrive in advance.

Si lo hubiera sabido...
I wish I would have been more aware that you really have to make an effort to meet local people. You will feel like you didn't have enough time there so make the most of every single day!

Recomendación personal
This university has a lot to offer. It may take a little effort to mix with the local students, but there is a great time to be had by everyone. Take advantage of the wide array of Irish studies courses and student societies.

Comentarios finales
Make the most of your international experience and don't hesitate to do all the things you wish for. Take advantage of student travel rates and immerse yourself in the local culture. There are several opportunities in Cork to see traditional Irish music, learn Gaelic sports, or just enjoy the everyday life of locals.

¿Por qué?
Because I loved to share house with other Irish or non-Italian house-mates. If I had chosen a campus accomodation, I would have had to book in advance without seeing the place, probably I would have spent more, and most of all I would have had more chances to live with other Italian students: likelihood that I wanted to avert, as my priority was to improve my English fluency as far as I could.

My comments refer to the second house I moved in. I spent the first 3 months in another place which was worse than the second one, in terms of costs, location and room.
My second accomodatio was far better. It was just 3 minutes walk from University, the landlord was polite and helpful, my housemates - 2 Irish and one German PHD students - were the nicest girls I could have ever shared the house with. My room was quite roomy, it had a mansard roof and a wooden floor (there was no carpet). Forniture was all new, and the room walls had been just painted before my arrival. as far as the rent is concerned, the price was quite competitive (325 Euro per month, plus electricity and gas bills).
