Orkney Islands and the Scottish west coast. Also at the north coast there are nice fishing towns with nice local pubs and happenings.

1. Be prepared to have problems, to face them and to learn with them; 2. Relax. If someone does'n understand what you're trying to say, take a deep breath and try another way! 3. Enjoy everything that's new! 4. Leave the preconcepted ideas at home: you don't need them!!

Great city, and University of Aberdeen ranks high in universities in the UK, however I wouldn't recommend doing the nutrition course.

Watch out for the homeless people who corner you and beg money off you for alcohol. The sunrise along the beach is fascinating. Also, don't walk down the beach boulevard alone after 10.

I can't do research and take classes at the same time so I had to add on another year of study at my home university.

The university itself needs to be more organized and less fickle in attitudes towards students. For instance, they they stress that students should be more responsible and act as adults and that they aren't goig to be lead by the hand all the time, but then they do things like check homework and take attendance in classes. The subwardens in accommodations do nothing as far as community goes and residents are largely unmonitored, resulting in loudness at all times of the day, misuse of kitchen areas, drug use, and other things that don't happen as often or as blatantly in US dorms.

Invest in a young person's railcard if you're going to be traveling by train - you get 30% off tickets. Also look into airlines like easyjet and ryanair because they can be quite cheap. STA travel and some other larger travel agencies are good at getting student discounts as well.

Personal spending habits
The oil industry has driven the cost of living up here in Aberdeen and so goods and services cost more. I also had to pay for a cell phone (the alternative was to pay for a land line) which I don't have to at my home universtiy. Accommodation was catered but they only provided breakfast and dinner, so I had to pay for lunch everyday on top of what I paid for housing/meals already. Normally I wouldn't travel in the State, and if i did I would do it with friends... here I traveled a lot but by myself and on trains.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I stayed at Crombie Johnston before moving to Hillhead,- in both places the living space is crowded and you might not click with your five flatmates

Hillhead is a fitting place for a first year student, access to lots of rowdy students and partying, also in close proximity to the Don river and the beach if you like to go running in the morning. Also Northcourt or Southhouse have the best rooms, a little more expensive but worth it compared to the shite catered flats.
