In L.A it´s kind of hard to go to clubs etc. but you´ve a lot to see. Everything is close, the ocean, the mountains, the desert and several national parcs.

I believe it has alot to do with the exchange rate and also being in Los Angeles, which is a city area alot of items or activities are more expensive.
