Sandy Bell's pub is awesome; the band Rantum Scantum is fun to watch, they play at pubs around town often; the Beltane festival in April is also great.

On cowgate and in this area there are plenty of pubs. I like Nichol Edwards, because it is little, cute and has live music every evening.
