My favorite place in Colchester would have to be the Art Cafe in Culver Square in town centre. They have delicious cakes and a variety of teas and coffees plus you ge to see nice paintings around you.

The university has a really good vibe and the teaching is outstanding. Very friendly people (students and teachers and locals), great surrounding area.

Research! This is a skill you will have developed during your studies - use it! Use it to decide where to go and use it to avoid any surprises once you get to your destination, so you'll know what to expect when you get there and from your overall experience. The internet is the ideal resource for this.

The library is not as well equipped as German libraries in general.

It might look a bit scary when you first get there as most of the university housing and facilities is built in grey conrete. Don't let you first impression take over, because the people you'll meet will make up for it.

Make sure you'll get a young person's railcard (and an oyster card for inner London), so you are able to go into London for around £10 (instead of £30).

great campus life, compare course details with other universities before you go - some courses are very well regarded and others are not very well known which indicates the level of academic teaching

if going to a university in the UK, compare courses at different universities - most big uni's with campusses will give you a great experinec but not necessarily the academic skills you would have liked to acquire.

Well taught course
Richard A
United Kingdom, Undergraduate
Economics, 2011
Overall
The course is a fairly standard Economics course. Uni of Essex rate particularly well for research in the field of Economics and their teaching is equally good.

The fields I focussed in were game theory related and I found the topics well explained with suitable levels of teaching time and good class sizes.

Essex as a uni would not be my first choice, however. The location is not ideal, it is not a particularly aesthetically pleasing university and parking is an absolute nightmare.
