Overall
I wish I had known...
The location of my apartment. It really pays off to check a map before you go and measure how many miles you are from campus. It may look like just a small amount, because American city blocks are quite large.

Final comments
I really enjoyed my stay. Academically, it wasn't so good for me, since I wasn't allowed to take any classes in my major (business).
There is not really much advice to give here, most of the student life takes part on campus (which is really nice by the way) during the day and at the bars or house parties at night, which are mostly on campus or very close.

Academic
Course recommendations
Quality of courses depends totally on the teacher, in my opinion. Usually, lower courses (100) are easier and less demanding, however this is not set in stone.

Personal comments
Since I had already spent a year in the US before my exchange semester, language was not an issue. It took me maybe a week or so to get back into it, but I didn't really learn anything new.

I would say "cook yourself", but if an all fast-food diet is ok for you, that's probably the cheapest way to go.

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because I had to walk to my apartment at night, when no buses were going, which took me 30 minutes. Not fun in an Illinois Winter.

Personal comments
My housing at University Commons was very nice, the only bad thing was the location. Also it was not much of a party location, seems like people live off campus to concentrate on studying.
