“Famous for Diversity, Student Body Seems Anything But Diverse”

Overall
I have a love-hate relationship with the University of Miami. The location, campus, professors, and quality of life are incredible. I love my field of study, and feel there have been lots of opportunities for advancement and achievement within my major's department. However, this school is lacking when it comes to advisors and administrators. Rather than having trained advisors, most are simply professors within the department, busy with their own commitments with little knowledge on courses and academic responsibilities. I have had to navigate many of my requited gen-eds and cognates (the wholistic education courses required by UM) on my own, and know many who have had to do the same. Further, many of the students here come from wealthy backgrounds and seem to make up the majority of the population. This school is very diverse, but many minority groups tend to stick together to avoid the privileged ignorance of many upper-class students.

There are cool places to go especially in South Beach as The Level which is a club where they play cool music (techno, house, hip-hop and so forth)....good clubs are also The Iguana Cantina and The Chili Pepper in Coconut Grove .... you can also find good cafe bar both in South Beach and in Coconut Grove....particularly interesting is the 5 de Mayo festival which is a cuban festival which takes every year on May 5th.....

I wish I had known...
Be sure of what the University is offering - what types of rooms for example. That way I could have held them to it better.

I would recommend - but it is quite unorganized... I would imagine they would be better in the future.

If you have a chance to study there, just do it, it will be one of the best things you have ever experienced, but you have to live on campus in apartments
