Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Because it was a great opportunity to meet other students (both American and international students) and to live with an American roommate with whom I got along very well. Besides, it was quite cheap and the accomodation was nice.

Personal comments
I got to share a large appartment on campus with an American girl who was studying French. The appartment was nicely decorated, clean, comfortable and close to the library and the classrooms, so I enjoyed it.

Overall
I wish I had known...
I did not have much information about the practical aspects of my stay before going (accomodation, choice of classes...), therefore I was a little worried. Actually I only had good surprises (nice appartment, good choice of courses...) but I would have been more serene knowing all that before arriving in the US.

In my opinion:
Most people loved it.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
The quality of instruction was good, the university has a lot of facilities, it is quite simple to go from there to Chicago, which is a beautiful town, and the local students are really willing to help.

During my experience abroad, I ...
(1) Never – (4) A lot
Became familiar with another culture
Met people from other countries
Experienced a change in life
Advanced my studies & career
Final comments
I chose to go to Notre Dame because there was an exchange program between this University and my school in France (EDHEC). I met a lot of people from different countries, and most of all I had the opportunity to work on projects, share an appartment and talk with local students, which was a great means to improve my language skills and to become more familiar with the American culture. This experience was very rich, it also allowed me to travel a bit throughout the US, and I would strongly recommend such an exchange to everyone.

Personal comments
Before going to Notre Dame, I had already been to the US twice, so I was able to deal with the everyday language. At first it was a bit difficult for me to understand one of my teachers, but by the end of the year, especially since I was living with an American girl, I was at ease in almost any situation.

Personal spending habits
Since the US dollar was not as strong as it is today at that time, the costs of living were rather less than in France. However, I was spending a lot on telephone bills to call my family/friends back home.
