I used to have a tea at The Central (they always give you free biscuits with your tea or coffee) If I wanted a delicious piece of cake or any pastries, I went to Mac Gregors. But above all I prefer The Broons, you can have a quiet tea, a tasty lunch, a dinner, or have some spirits while lisening a live Dj.

The residence where I was living was a bit far from the centre (2,5 km) and it was the poorest accommodation in St. Andrews. It was a residence formed by houses of six people, with a bathroom, a toilet, the kitchen, and the rooms.

Personal comments
At first I was quite stressed, because I didn't know who I was going to cope. But then I became more confident, I met people, and began to work. That was important becuase I got used to the Scottish accent.

Personal comments
In the second-hand shops, most of them The Heart Foundation or Oxfam, you can find a lot of interesting things, books, cds, clothes, etc, and you are doing a good action if you buy there, because they give a percentage of your purchase

I wish I had known...
I didn't know Prince William was there studying, and it was a bit annoying how cost of life increased, and the "Noble" environment created around him. It was a very "posh" atmosphere. These kind of people never interacted with the other students.

Personal recommendation
You must bear in mind where are you going to, because it is a little village and the thing of the Prince, and you must know what are you going for, I mean, you must do your own research about the academic life, that is, the modules you can do, it is very important to know them before you go.

Final comments
The university has a Travel Agency that offers relative cheap flights, train tickets, and holiday packages. What I suggest is to have a look through internet first. If you want an extra money for your expenses or whatever, it is very easy to find a job in St. Andrews. There is a private agency that offers jobs in the area, but I recommend to you to go first to the university job office, it is better, you can find a job in a hall of residence.
