Academic
Course recommendations
Engineering courses in calculus and physics are horrible. The teachers give D's and F's to more than 50% of the class. See ratemyprofessors.com for further proof from many students that the teachers are terrible. Teachers only interested in research and not teaching. They say this is a "Co-Op" and hands on learning which is really not true. It is all theoretical and finals count for at least 60% of the grade.

Personal comments
Do not fail over 50% of the class in physics, calculus, statics and engineering courses. Teachers should focus on teaching rather than research. Many of my friends transferred out on UVIC never to return.

Given that the teachers in engineering fail so many students you may have to re-take a course which will cost you more money and reduce your self confidence.

Student life
Describe host city:
Activities, Nightlife, Travel: Takes place mostly outside the university/student environment
Personal social experience
Personal comments
Best night life is in downtown Victoria. Social life on campus in minimal. There is no school spirit. The few sports teams they have are not good and no one goes to the games. NO SCHOOL SPIRIT !

Overall
I wish I had known...
Yes, that the teachers in engineering/math/physics were horrible. I would not have come there to study. Better to go there on holiday as it is a beautiful place and not study there. There is also no school spirit at all. They really do not care if teachers fail the students as many students just get fed up and transfer to another school. Very high turnover for students for these reasons.

In my opinion:
Stay home.
Important factors in my choice
(1) Unimportant – (4) Very important
Personal recommendation
Not recommended. Go to another university and visit Victoria on holiday. Nice place to visit from May to September. From October to April it rains all the time and is cloudy.

Final comments
Disappointed in UVIC. On the surface, it appears to be a good school. The only ting good about it is the location. You can just visit Victoria on a holiday or vacation during May to September and skip going to school there. That is the best advice.

Housing
Type of housing: On campus
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: On campus
Why?
Very limited space on campus. Primarily for first year students. After the first year they have no other choice but to move off campus.

Personal comments
Housing is good for first year students. Housing demand on campus is much greater than housing supply. After first year, most students must live off campus.
