If you are interested in attending a summer Polish course just apply for a grant. The Austrian and the Polsih Government have an agreement ("Kulturabkommen") from which you can get financial aid.

value of zloty allows for trip to be inexpensive, ie. a typical beer at a higher class restaurant cost no more than the equivalent of 2 dollars and a meal at the nicest restaurant on the rynek costs 15 dollars.

Buy a monthly pass for the tram and bus. Use your meal coupons too. Kababs are good, but they add up. same with alcohol at the bars. buy a bottle at the local sklep or drink at the piast bar before going out. it saves a ton. I ended up spending way more than expected just from these small expenses adding up; granted, i did go out for 6 weeks straight.

go on as many excursions as possible. and dont be afraid to be outgoing and meet people right off the bat. many students on the summer study are looking for a good time just like you, and these relationships will last. ps polish girls are rediculously hot.

I think I spent more on phone for obvious reasons, it costs alot of money to call the United States from Poland, plus local calls are also more expensive on average. During the year we would go out 3-4 nights a week so I spent quite a bit on nightlife and we also traveled quite a bit.

There are a lot of opportunities for student discounts, for example with the ISIC card, future students should look into this. Also with your student ID from the Polish university you can get dscounts on local transportation, bus, tram, etc.

Overall
If you think of studying Polish language, Uniwersytet Jagielloński is the best option. It has various specialisations that focuse on literature, teaching, anthropology etc. The professors of UJ are passionate, student-oriented and have an extensive knowlege about the topics of their specialisations. The facilities and teaching aids are modern and in good condition.
