Helpful to have some accommodation arragned by university, though it could have been more carefully chosen. However, situation in Cambridge was everywhere pretty much the same - private rented as university provided

Everything in Britian is at least about twice as expensive (if not more) than in Germany. Quality for money is very low, specially in regards to accomodation.

ALDI in Cambridge helps a lot. Sainbury's in city centre is lot more expensive than the one on Coldhamslane. Fresh and - more or less - reasonably priced vegetables and fruits best to be bought on the market. Eating out is always pretty expensive. Best tip: look for a job or save a lot before going to Cambridge! Good for travel: travelcard for the busses pays of in no time.
