We were all placed with different families in groups of 2-3 students. Before arrival we could fill out a survey about our housing preferences to ensure a good match with the families. I had everything I needed. They even allowed me to use their home computer.

I spent more on telephone because I was calling internationally, and more on nightlife/travel because I was going out more often to see the city. Housing was cheaper because we stayed with host families who cooked for us.

Unlike most foreign students at this school I already spoke French fluently. Therefore there wasn't much of a shock in that sense. However, I learned about the differences between French Canadian and the European equivalent. Also, with the help of my Italian friends at school as well as a few trips to Italy I was able to better my italian.
