Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
In 1996 I participated in an AFS Exchange to Argentina and lived with an Argentine family for a year. This was a wonderful experience as it gave me the opportunity to live and breathe everything that was part of the Argentine culture. I would definately repeat this experience but have also immensely enjoyed living in an apartment whilst being in Spain. I shared this apartment with 7 others from various parts of the world. Living in such close quarters with so many increased immensly my levels of cultural understandings and now value greatly the differences that can lie between two people of the same age yet from different parts of the world. I would definately repeat this learning experience again should I be given another chance.

Personal savings
Other sources of funding:

Work opportunities:
It was not legal for me to work
Personal spending habits
I found prices in general just a bit less than I was used to in Atlanta, GA. Accomodations are typically cheaper for a good location, but of course it is less space. go with the ofertas. The rest of Spain is much cheaper.

be about the "rebaixes". avoid corte ingles, and big name shops like in Pl. Cataluya. Use monthly metro cards, or more

Because Barcelona is a very expensive city. Moreover, I felt the need to experience the city, the Spanish way of life, and also travel to other countries. All of the above require quite a lot of money.

Everything as I expected it to be. Europe is definitely more expensive than the U.S. Best tip: make a budget before coming and stick to it!

Why?
Most students in Barcelona live in apartments or with their family. It is often cheaper than a residence and it provides for greater independance.

It is quite difficult to find short term accomodation in Barcelona, especially if your Spanish is not very good. Housing agencies, despite the fees, are a good choice for first time visitors.

It has alot of facilities for you to use: Bolsa de Trajbajo, computers, library etc. And the class are entertaining and instructional if you want them to be but they are also not an to much amount of work if you don´t want them to be
