Great up-to-date campus, skilled teachers, scenic setting at Lake Geneva, just North of the French Alps. Switzerland is a beautiful country, especially around Lausanne and Lake Geneva.

PLAN WELL AHEAD! Prepare yourself by reading books on Switzerland and the Swiss people. I recommend "Living and Working in Switzerland", Survival Books. Travel in- and outside the country during your stay. Lausanne is 4 hours of train from Milano and Paris, and 6-8 hours from the French riviera!

Courses were in french but project was in english due to having a non-francophone supervisor. It is possible to learn french well in a year but sometimes other students communicate in english, which makes learning french harder. All professors and administration staff in EPFL also speak at least english.

The student cafe satellite is a nice place to hang out during breaks or even at night, due to a lot of cultural activities. Lausanne has several clubs with different types of music. House clubs are pretty expensive, but you'll also find student places, where it is not that expensive, e.g. Blue Lezard.

If you are going as Erasmus student, don't miss the first weeks of interogation. I did, and I found it difficult to get to know people in the beginning because of that. But after a while it was terrific!

Expenses
Main source of funding:
Government assistance
Other sources of funding:
Family
An ERASMUS grant
A private grant
Work opportunities:
I didn't explore any work options
Personal spending habits
I didn't make as many phone calls as at home. I mainly used SMS and instant messaging due to the price levels. The food and the housing was more expensive than in Sweden. Since I wanted to see as much of the country as possible, I spent a lot of money on traveling.
