In Lausanne they speak French, but you have not too many problems speaking English in many situations. Anyhow, I recommend to everyone coming to do an effort and to learn French, it will make your life much more easier, and you can learn it for free at the university.

Overall
The school is very research-oriented, the teachers are experts in their field. From the first year we are taught autonomy, no attendance is compulsory. The training is complete and difficult.

There are many good places to go dancing, especially MAD, D Club and The Loft. Some nice bars are Café Luna and Jet Lag. There are some cool concerts at Casino de Monbenon. The Fête de la Cité in the old town in July should not be missed.

The exchange office there works pretty well, they gave me much more help than on my origin university. The main problem is that there is no campus, and therefore most of the accomodation places are far from the university. There are some very nice appartments but it is difficult to find a place if you are not going to stay a whole year.
