food and accomodation are a lot cheaper there, however alcohol is a lot more expencive due to the fact it is controlled by the government and only available in one shop called Alco. However you can buy beer in the supermarket and if you recycle your empty bottles they give you money which can be used towards your next bottle of beer! plus you get a brilliant student discount on the express bus, making it really cheap to travel around Finland

Finland is more expensive than the Netherlands, and you have to take into consideration, that you have all the time, there is no job or what so ever, you can do whatever you like at any time, and that costs!

In Helsinki you can not miss, Baker's and Vanha! great places. I lived in Valkeakoski and to be honoust Hotel Waltikka was the only deasent place to go out.Tampere (half an hour drive from Valkeakoski) is a great city, Cafe Europe, and a couple of dicsotheques of which I can not remember their names of, were great. And during the summer you can not miss the big summer festival in Helsinki, and while you are there, step on the boat to Tallinn, absolutely fabulous!

Overall costs were slightly higher but this was taken into account with the grant received from Erasmus. Food was expensive, as was eating/drinking out. Small things like taxi's can be costly.

Shop at local markets. Plan bus routes, get yourself a student card to get discounts on trains and buses. Use student offers in bars and clubs.

If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
My French friend and I have had the best time in this appartment. I slept in the living room and he had the bedroom, which was actually a littlebit too small for the both of us

the accommodation was only five minutes away from the ammattikorkeakoulu (university). We were on the last floor and the greatest view ever,.. over the lake!
