Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - My choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I had my own house before coming to school, so living with roommates is not high on my list of things to do.

Housing around campus gets easy to find around June or July, but before that be prepared to be charged a higher rate. If you could wait, wait until the summer to secure housing.

I lived at the Residence, where I had a room (about 8m2) of my own! I hade everything I needed inside (incl. a fridge!) and I had the chance to get to know "real" Canadians, what I enjoyed very much! Monthly costs about 320 CAN $ per month - so, much cheaper than an appartment (about 500 CAD $ p. m.) there!

Why?
it was cheaper, we had a lot of space, the apartment block was very secure, we were in a safe area, and some of our friends had problems with the on-campus housing (no kitchen facilities)

we heard a lot of bad things about the on-campus accommodation but the apartment that we found, off-campus but still close by, was fantastic

The university tries to convince you that you're better off getting your housing through them, but you usually end up paying more (except maybe in the dorms) than if you had looked yourself.

Choice of finding a place through HEC (GIA Gestion) or finding a place yourself. Very easy to find an apartment to share in Montreal as everyone sublets. Most people seemed happy with their GIA Gestion accommodation as well.
