Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Host university
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
I would recommend that future students live in private accommodation not arranged through HEC. You will find a much larger range of choice of accommodation and better value for money. It is best to live near HEC - either Cote de Neiges or Universite de Montreal metro stops.

HEC can arrange it for you but I had a bad experience - I only saw 2 flats neither of which I would have chosen had I been looking myself. On the other hand, it is much easier this way.

I think I had a lot of luck because my apartment was nearly perfect, all my expectations have been exceeded. a huge room with a huge bed, a desk with chair, another relaxing chair and a walk-in cupboard. I had to share the kitchen, living room and bathroom with another person. we had everything in our apartment excepting a washing machine (was in the basement, I had to pay extra for using them). The apartment was in the sixth floor, about 10 minutes from the university. the locality was also ok (near, bus station, supermarkets, restaurants etc.)

Housing
Type of housing: Apartment/House
Arranged by: Independently - I had no other choice
If returning, I would choose: Apartment/House
Why?
It was a very nice experience to live some distance away from the university. Because after all the day's hard work one had to pass through shopping centres and plazas which had a soothing and relaxing effect. This was specially important during winters when everything is covered with snow, staying at a some distance from the university can also avoid boredom.

There were no housing on the campus, and in an appartment you have the freedom to invite people, and you also have your place for your own.

As I said the University did not have any accomodation, but they do have an association that helps exchange students to find an accomodation near the university or next to the centrum.

There is only one person in charge and she is simply swamped with all the work. Furthermore we had to pay 5 rental fees for 4 months + our rental fee was far over market price. However the flat was ok and it saved me a lot of time and worries.
