Despite the fact that Montreal is in Québec, the French-speaking province of Canada, English is widely used which hindered me from speaking French outside the classroom.

If you want to learn a language, you have to be confronted with it all day and not only 1 or 2 hours a week. So, going abroad is the best way, to learn a language!

QuÃ©bÃ©cois is not french! Beware! It takes some time until you get to understand it. And even in the end there were many expressions I wouldn't understand. The French neither.

I have the opportunity to improve my French while in class and also to practice my English in the neigborhood I was living (mainly English speaking one)

a lot of english was spoken, which is good if you are shy, as it helps put you at ease, but everything is done in french, which is good for language proficiency
